Lie to the Pax and They Will Come
All All MECA BackblastsJanuary 20th, 2016
At least 24 pax read the informal pre-blast for today’s #Cruise and saw that they were being promised sunny skies and 65 degree temps. 18 pax showed up with sunscreen and bathing suits and were quite disappointed. 9 out of 10 experts agree that the best way to combat disappointment is to run. And we did.
The Thang:
- Two routes that turned into three along with multiple pace groups.
- Out of HCES driveway, make a right on HC Prkwy, and then either head towards back entrance till 5:50 and then turn OR make first left turn after Wildbrook (Cambridge Bay??) for a longer route to the back entrance and then reverse course.
- I did not get a distance read on the shorter route, but the longer route was 5.7.
The Naked Moleskin:
- It was awesome to pull into the lot and have to look hard for a parking spot. I honestly thought there was an event going on at the school and teachers had parked in the back lot – the F3 portion of the lot.
- We welcomed FNG Bill Parrish to the Cruise. He had seen Gump’s NextDoor.com blurb about F3 and had e-mailed during the holidays to determine if this was a cult, a scam, both, or legit. Guess we tricked him, b/c he posted.
- This morning’s #JackRabbit award goes to J-lo who thought he was at #Speed. The runners up #Rabbit award goes to Nighthawk who only has one speed; fast. The rest of us just tried to hang on….with limited success.
- J-Lo has been out of the Cruise for a while focused on some half marathon training (congrats on a solid Disney run) and today was his first day back in a while. He said he had to come back b/c people have been sniping at his Strava segment records in his absence. Must be @Nighthawk’s doing.
- Following COT I heard from a number of guys that our running horde had settled into a number of different pace groups which is great. Everyone knows that running with at least one buddy makes the mileage fly by twice as fast. If @Chopper is in your group it goes by 4 times as fast b/c he talks 4 times as much as the average pax.
- Heard some #MumbleChatter about @Thorn. That he was killing it out there today. Someone asked if @Thorn was HC’ed for the BRR yet. Not yet. I tried but my Jedi Mind Tricks did not work on him. Need some reinforcements.

I swear I heard 18 guys count off during COT but I only wrote down 16 names. If I missed you, sound off in comments & cobains for my note taking failure.
Loved the big numbers today. Keep that alarm set guys – when spring hits and you are driving on the parkway and see all the out of shape people who hibernated this winter struggling up the hills, you will be glad you sucked it up and suffered through a handful of cold mornings.
Dang.. solid numbers!
Oh, and I can’t claim the Next Door post this time. It was someone else, which is awsome!
@Hammer is one of the names you were looking for
@Alcatraz – awesome, thanks. Have added him.
Thanks for the hospitality this morning @TheNanny! Haven’t cruises at highlands before and as a BRR first time trainee, the hills suck but are necessary!
@Coyote Great to have you this morning. Friday #Speed and Sunday #Distance are other great Highlands run opportunities. You are welcome at one and all.
Thorn was indeed killing it. And talking the entire time a la Chopper; what an amazing skill. He has barely been running and we struggled to keep up with him. Maybe we should try a little reverse psychology re BRR and let him come to us.
Great running with you guys this morning! Oh….wait a minute…I’m lying to the Pax.
I’ll see you guys out there soon (this one’s not a lie).
