Thunder Road 2015 — PR Day

All CSAUP Backblasts

November 16th, 2015 By Freeloader

On Saturday, over 60 PAX from around the Charlotte region converged on Romare Bearden Park for the 2015 running of the Thunder Road Marathon and Half Marathon.  At 705, Uncle led the group with a BOM prayer and at 0730 under sunny skies, a light wind and a crisp 34 degrees, we were off.   What transpired over the next 4-5 hours was nothing short of spectacular.

Many guys went farther, faster, or farther and faster than they ever have before, while others simply went as fast as they could  It’s a testament to the work that they’ve done, the belief they have had in themselves, and the accountability they had to each other.  We modestly refer to these things as CSAUP, and in the larger picture they are.  However, Saturday was a celebration of our F3 community coming together to support their brothers as they pushed themselves towards new heights.

Impressive performances by many and I invite each of you to share your experiences in the comments section below.

YHC will start with two notable 2F performances:

Last—F3Nation was not only the Largest Team this year, but also the fastest in both the Marathon and the Half Marathon.

See you in the gloom…Corporate Cup is only a few months away.

  1. 1:30.18 PR and first race in a long damn time. Morehead and Latta Park hills absolutely sucked. TClaps to the PAX for pushing and encouraging me. Never could have done this alone. Thanks to Nash & Tesla for the EH many months ago and to Freeloader for dragging me along the first 10 miles and then kicking me in the ass to go finish hard. I owe a bunch of you guys a beer or two…

  2. Awesome job by *FL and Uncle. Thanks for the multiple pushes, *FL, MF, 20/20, Disney, The Show and others. Awesome crowd support, too.

Glad to beat @Cindy’s published PR of 1:33:09. You’re a stud, man.

Hate to miss the #1:29 but Fowl Ballz will probably just skim the hundy out of a client lunch reimbursement and @Cindy wil spend it at NoDa brewery so we keep the cash local. All good.

#1:29 Goal continues for Corporate Cup.

    Peace be with you,
    Subway

    2. Man I was actually going to try and be polite and not comment on the bag of dog sh*t you laid on Saturday for @TayTay but way to pull some race result from 1998 when I had 7 girlfriends (1 was your future M who I dumped instantly), played on a national championship college contender hoops team, had zero training, and ran the race backwards. I guess someone like you just gets use to failing to live up to expectations in life. Just another day for you. Feel bad for your kids. And sorry for lapping you on today’s intervals. That was a disgrace as well. How about start setting some more realistic goals…like only being half of a dbag. #shoot4thestars

Peace be with you?? Thanks John Lennon. He probably sucked as well.

  3. What a great day! BOM was great, somber prayer led by @Uncle calling to be accountable and that we can be the leaders this community needs.

I decided on a whim to do the full with just under 9 weeks to prepare told @Mortimer (who is the fastest marathoner in F3 you probably don’t know about)and he said he thought I could run a 3:45, I have one full under my belt and it was 4:24 in Chicago which is a much much easier course, I was skeptical but went with it. For the training we had the pleasure of @Primetime (fastest talker in all of F3, fact not opinion) and @Fenway (Toilet King of the Southeast) and set off for a pretty murderous training program which the 2nd F was the stuff of legend. We ran on the road, we ran on the track we ran on the greenway. We laughed, puked and crapped and it was marvelous.

Race day comes and spirits were high, felt good, really good was ahead of pace all the way until the Hawthorne climb and then recovery just wasn’t happening like it had, was still able to keep pace but it was requiring a lot more and then at around 23 the dashboard lit up and it was a grind. @Mortimer is the king of lyng in the most positive way he paced me through and refused to let Stonewall (which is total BS BTW) break me. We crossed the finish line together @ 3:40:10 just missed the revised goal of 3:39:59 but it was still so satisfying. But the real victory was the friends made in the training @Mortimer @Primetime and @Fenway are some of the best people you could ever know and the band will stay together to work towards a Boston Qualifier in Spring.

Also full disclosure on Race day I tipped the scales at 226# so I am pretty sure I got a top 5 Clydesdale time. To all who set PRs or just achieved their goals T-Claps.

  4. Amazing day all around. Couldn’t ask for better weather. Perfect culmination of months of dedicated training leading up to my first full. Left it all on the course and have no regrets. This was all about getting all that I could out of my body and pushing it to its limits. I did. And it was exhilarating. Crossing Tryon heading home toward Mint must have been a little dusty as my eyes seemed to water a touch with the upright finish line in sight. Amazing 2nd F w/ Frodo for the first 20 miles. Damn I love the men of Harrisburg and Highlands. Metro folks are OK, too. TClaps to Uncle and Freeloader for their efforts in coordinating. Handful of observations…

1 – Stonewall sucks and I hope it collapses into a sinkhole when no one is around.
2 – Last mile was toughest mile I’ve ever run. Made 6 man BRR squad seem easy.
    3 – Winnebago is a machine.
4 – I dare someone to find a 60 y/o as bad as SS Minnow.
5 – Bar has been set. Don’t know Freeloader but I’m gunning for him.

    With a little love…

  5. Hurt like it always does, just glad to get into the sub-1:40s and sweep the podium in the white eyebrow Clydesdale group. Thanks to FL for leading and to all the F3 bros for the push along the way. It made a big difference.

Plus it was amazing to see Material Girl and Stiletto crush the marathon finish. Wow. Whole different kind of human.
